About Us

Theosophical Order of Service (TOS) was founded in 1908 by Dr. Annie Besant, then International President of The Theosophical Society, to encourage members across the globe to practice universal brotherhood by reaching out to those in need.

The Mumbai Region of TOS was registered in 1970 as a nongovernmental organization under the Bombay Public Trusts Act. During the early years, Save the Children Fund, London partnered our organization and regularly remitted funds for the education of poor, deserving students. Since then, the focus of our activities has remained on educational activities.

For the last 25 years, the Governor of Maharashtra has been the Patron-in-Chief of our organization. We are privileged that the website rajbhavan-maharashtra.gov.in lists Theosophical Order of Service, Mumbai among the “key institutions” where the Governor serves as the head or chief patron.
In our TOS logo, the big circle denotes our charitable organization which, like the sun, gives its resources equitably without distinction of religion, caste, creed or sex. The smaller circle represents our members who, like planets, are constantly moving and striving to extend a helping hand.
